Walmart just announced a new partnership with thredUp. If you’ve never heard of thredUp, it’s one of the largest resale e-commerce businesses. thredUp is an online shopping market where bargain hunters can buy name-brand clothing, shoes, and handbags for less.
To put it simply, it’s a giant online garage sale. Some products are new with tags, others are gently used. Although Walmart just made the announcement yesterday, you can already shop over 750,000 “like new” secondhand items on Walmart.com.
The partnership with thredUp is the beginning of Walmart’s entrance into the resale market. Talks of the deal have been in the works for about a year. Finalizing the deal became a clear choice in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Walmart.com’s head of fashion e-commerce, Denise Incandela, said it just made sense to launch at a time when many households may have a more limited budget due to the pandemic.
thredUp’s team evaluates and selects all of the items you’ll find on Walmart.com. They are all in “new” or “like new” condition.
Incandela shared her enthusiasm about the deal, stating, “We know that customers, especially millennials, are interested in shopping resale clothing.”
She went on to add, “In fact, according to thredUP’s upcoming 2020 Annual Resale Report, 70% of consumers have bought or are now willing to buy secondhand. This partnership is our latest move to establish Walmart.com as a destination for fashion and offer customers the pre-owned items they might be looking for. We think they’ll be surprised and delighted by what they find, and we’re excited to inspire customers to look and feel their best.”
When you shop the pre-owned fashion portal at Walmart.com, you may be surprised at what you can find. Although Walmart has never been known as a place to shop top brands, it is now.
You’ll find women’s clothing, kids clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories. They currently have items from brands like Coach, The Gap, Banana Republic, Express, Gymboree, Ralph Lauren and more.
Although you’ll shop and checkout on Walmart.com, thredUp will ship the items to you. If you buy an item on Walmart.com you won’t be able to return the item to your local Walmart.
thredUp currently gives you 45 days to return items.
