Liquidation sales at over 130 JCPenney retail locations are kicking off today with discounts of up to 40% off. According the group managing the store closing sales, you’ll find even larger discounts on items like fine jewelry and window treatments.
The 136 store closures are just the first step in their renewal transformation strategy. By reducing the number of physical stores and focusing resources on its eCommerce store, JCPenney hopes to transform the business with renewed sustainability and profits.
We recently published a complete list of the JCPenney stores that were filed with the bankruptcy court and finalized on June 11. These are the stores you’ll find storewide discounts of 25 to 40% off with a few exceptions.
The original list included 154 stores, but only 136 stores are included in the initial round of closures. These locations were removed in the final court filing and you won’t find liquidation sales at these locations that “remain on hold pending further review.”
The groups managing the closures, Gordon Brothers, Hilco Merchant Resources, Great American Group, and Tiger Group issued a joint statement in regards to the closings:
“Due to the name recognition and goodwill of this brand, we encourage consumers to shop early to take advantage of the best selection of products as we expect merchandise to sell very quickly. JCPenney store associates remain committed to providing customers with an engaging shopping experience while offering even better deals on the most popular merchandise.”
Items purchased prior to June 12 can still be returned. During the liquidation sales you’ll have until June 25 to return items. After that, all sales are final.
You will no longer be able to purchase gift cards, but some locations will honor them.
